The museum's parking lot sign (made by Dennis Dietrich of Tuscola, now deceased) has long been overdue for
a face lift. Following the death of his wife, Betty, John Alexander requested that memorial donations be made
to the Douglas County Museum. John designated that the money be used to make the museum more visible to the
public with regard to signage improvement. A portion of the money was therefore used to purchase a small,
portable sign which is now used to advise passersby of upcoming events. A larger portion of the memorial money
was used to hire sign painters who have now given the museum's sign an entirely new look. The sign was
originally just treated, natural wood. However, now the parking lot sign is a beautiful new tri-color. The
trustees would like to extend a note of appreciation to John Alexander and those who memorialized Betty this
very special way. Betty was a strong supporter and regular visitor of the museum, and she is greatly missed by
the museum's staff of volunteers.
